We received these questions about Heaven.
“Are there some people created to never go to Heaven? So that no matter what we do they will never be saved?”
In order to answer this question we need to consider the whole counsel of the Bible. First, how does someone go to Heaven? Is it based on one’s works? Scripture is clear that we are saved by grace through faith alone. Our salvation is not a result of our works, but the atoning work of Christ’s death on the cross for all past, present, and future sins. His resurrection from the dead secures our salvation.
Why do we need salvation? We need it, because we all have sinned, and sin separates us from God. Romans 3:23 declares, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Indeed, we are born into sin. “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.” (Psalm 51:5) As humans with a sinful nature, we all personally choose to sin. Consider the following:
“Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.” (Ecclesiastes 7:20)
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8)
Sin is what separates from God and sin will lead us to eternal destruction. But Jesus came to save us from our sins and reconcile us to the Father! “Just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.” (John 10:15) Jesus willingly laid down His life. Because He was fully God and fully man He could live a sinless life and die in our place to satisfy the just requirements of God the Father. “He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:2)
Since Jesus died for all sin, His sacrifice is for everyone. Jesus said, ““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” Whoever means anyone who puts their faith in the redemptive work of Christ. Consider Romans 10:9-13,
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
This salvation is wrought by God, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) It is a free gift to all!
I share that because scripture clearly teaches that salvation is available to anyone who truly calls upon the Lord. Sadly, there are many who will reject the Lord’s call of salvation. Jesus said in Matthew 7, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
Who can be saved? One thing is for certain—you can, if you receive Jesus Christ as your Savior! If you are not certain you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, you can respond right now with a prayer similar to this:
“God, I realize I am a sinner and could never reach heaven by my own good deeds. Right now I place my faith in Jesus Christ as God’s Son who died for my sins and rose from the dead to give me eternal life. Please forgive me of my sins and help me to live for you. Thank you for accepting me and giving me eternal life.”
