Memorial Day provides a solemn moment to pause, reflect, and remember all of the men and women through the years who “gave the last full measure of devotion” to secure and preserve the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. It has taken an incredible amount of sacrifice by so many to secure these liberties.
Since the Battle of Lexington and Concord to this Memorial Day, approximately 1,354,664 Americans have laid down their lives, either in battle or in support roles both in and out of theater. That number is staggering. The shot heard round the world at that first battle of the American Revolution was 89,521 days ago. (April 19, 1775) Averaged out over time that equates to 15 Americans giving their lives for freedom each and every day. So this Memorial Day, may we all take time to thank the Lord for our brothers and sisters who showed such sacrificial love for their country.
The National Moment of Remembrance is an annual event that asks us as Americans, wherever we are at 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day, to pause for a duration of one minute to remember those who have died in military service to the United States.
God bless you all and may God save, heal, and bless the United States of America.
